At the time when our company started the history project, Changwon City was also carrying out the “City Archive” project.
Thinking that the corporate record is the city's record, we first proposed an exchange, and Changwon City responded to this. Therefore, in October 2019, ‘A business agreement between Changwon City and Central Group to spread the corporate archive culture’ was signed.
At that time, a recording researcher from Changwon City visited our company and advised on the recording activities.
In February of this year, Central celebrated its 50th anniversary, our recording activities also entered the final stage. Since we have made an agreement, we thought it would be good to make concrete results. Just in time, Changwon City announced a plan to establish ‘Changwon Archives’ by 2024 together with the ‘Industrial Labor History Archives.’ Then, we suggested Changwon City to store the data we collected in its storage. Changwon City welcomed our suggestion and the ‘Central Memory Data Donation to Changwon City Ceremony’ was held on February 24.
We donated the data submitted by retired and current employees since the start of the history project in 2019. We donated 210 items of 37 types including the 1981 Employment Rules, salary envelopes from the 1980s to the 2000s, labor-management negotiation data, souvenirs of the founding anniversaries, souvenirs of Labor Day, old name tags in Chinese characters, employee ID cards from the early 2000s, service plaques, citations, work clothes from the 2000s, etc. These will be managed by Changwon City's archive system.
▶ Where are the donated items stored?
For now, they will be stored in a storage area managed by the Changwon City Archive Team. Eventually, when the Changwon Archives opens in 2024, they will be stored there. The storage refers to a warehouse that stores relics and works in museums or art galleries, and is a specialized space that keeps items from being damaged by consistently managing temperature and humidity.
Of course, the items we donated this time can be taken out whenever we need. It just requires a procedure. For example, it is similar to the situation that the National Museum of Korea rents and stores the materials of Oegyujanggak Uigwe of Joseon held by the National Library of France.
Of course, Oegyujanggak was robbed by France but our data was donated, so it is essentially different, but it is important to remember that the Changwon Archives owns the ownership and management rights, but we can take out and use them whenever we need it through some procedures.
This event proves that our data is valuable enough to be managed by Changwon City. Shall we say that we can look at us in a bigger picture called Changwon City? I hope this will be an opportunity for members of Central to recognize that we are of great value in this city.
You can also imagine a scene like this. An old man retired from Central visits the Changwon Archives on a holiday with his grandchildren and family. After some procedure, he takes out a salary envelop with his name on it. The family can sit in the lobby and talk about the salary envelop.
They can say “My grandfather worked at Central for decades and it has made our family. This is the proof.”
It is no exaggeration to say that the existence of a person is influenced by his or her memory.
Remembering what and which scene make the person.
Therefore, records or items of memories can be an important basis to support the person’s existence.
Because they are the definitive evidence that explains and proves who we are and who we have been with.
I hope that this historical project will help establish a culture of faithfully accumulating memory materials while working and in the course of work life.
I hope that our memories will be more fulfilling and enriching in the 70th anniversary of Central next year and even in the 80th, 90th, and 100th anniversary. As such, I believe that our company and our lives working in the company will be enriched and fulfilled.
